On a Monday night in August of 1972, a lineup of Johnny Cash and June Carter with the Tennessee Three, Carl Perkins and the Statler Brothers opened Pine Knob's doors for country music, and it's remained a home for the genre ever since. Stalwarts from Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings to contemporary hitmakers such as Kelsea Ballerini and Jimmie Allen have dropped in over the years, along with scores of their Nashville mates and packages such as the 2012 Country Throwdown Tour. Since 2016, Pine Knob has been the home of the 99.5 WYCD Hoedown, where Garth Brooks made a surprise appearance on June 15, 2019.
