Accessibility Services
Accessible Entry
- The Fox Theatre main entrance located on Woodward Ave. between West Montcalm St. and West Columbia St. is accessible.
-
To ensure the highest level of safety and security, all guests are subject to a security screening upon entering the Fox Theatre.
- The Fox Theatre offers additional accessible entries at West Montcalm St. and West Columbia St. at select events. Guests must clear the screening procedures above.
Accessible Drop Off / Pick-Up Areas
- The designated Accessible Drop Off / Pick Up location is on Woodward Ave. at West Columbia St.
- Stopping directly in front of the theatre doors is prohibited as it blocks the Q-Line train tracks. Guests will be asked to pull forward if stopping in this area.
- Guests can request wheelchair assistance from our Guest Services team if needed.

Electrical Outlets
- The Fox Theatre is a historic venue, and access to electrical outlets is limited throughout the venue. Guests who require access to an electrical outlet for a disability-related device or other accessibility need are encouraged to contact the nearest event colleague or go to Guest Services upon arrival. While outlet availability cannot be guaranteed in all locations, our team will work to identify available accommodations whenever possible.
Elevators/Escalators
- There are two publicly accessible elevators in the venue.
- If you have ever sat in the balcony at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, you may have had the opportunity to ride one of the original passenger elevators, installed back in 1928 before the theatre opened.
- The elevators are beautifully detailed with red-leather wall panels, ornate brass railings and buttons, and elephant-print carpet recreated from the original carpeting of the theatre during the restoration efforts of the 1980s.
- It may surprise you to learn these elevators were not originally part of the construction plans for the five-level theatre — the original plans called for escalators, but likely due to concerns about soundproofing, these magnificent elevators were built instead.
- They are still hand-operated today, just as they were on opening night.
Emergency Evacuation
- If there is any type of emergency situation that might cause a delay of the event or an evacuation of the venue, please direct your attention to the stage or an Event Colleague. Guests with special needs should contact the nearest Event Colleague for assistance.
- Guests at the Fox Theatre are encouraged to take the following steps:
- Be aware of your location at the Fox Theatre at all times.
- Identify the two exits closest to your seats.
- Listen and watch for instructions from the stage or an Event Colleague.
- In the event of an emergency, the Fox Theatre asks that all guests remain calm, cooperate with Event Colleagues, and follow direction from the stage.
