On June 25, 1972, David Cassidy, a teen sensation thanks to his starring role in The Partridge Family on ABC, played the first notes at Pine Knob with a matinee performance in front of a full house of screaming teenage girls. The man also known as Keith Partridge to his fans filled the show with his Family hits during the first of thousands of “Summer Days” and nights, to come. The grown-ups weren’t left out of the party, either; Andy Williams and Quincy Jones played Pine Knob’s “formal” opening two days later.
