With its diverse annual lineup of concerts, Pine Knob quickly attracted fans of all demographics, toting coolers in to sit on the lawn and dressing in everything from T-shirts, shorts and, early on, tube socks to suit-and-tie finery. The theater's initial capacity was 12,500 and the lawn was bisected by a tunnel, whose walls were painted with the names of acts that played there. The tunnel was filled in during the early `80s, increasing Pine Knob's capacity to 15,000. Video screens were installed on the pavilion roof during the summer of 1995 to bring close-up views to lawn fans as well.
